Helpful Tips

Here I’ll compile a bunch of helpful tips that I come across for cooking, health, or household, so they’re all in one place! Really, it’s for me, but I thought I’d share. Feel free to submit your own and I’ll incorporate them here!

Health

To stave off a cold (or lessen its severity), or for an impending infection (sinus, bladder, strep, etc…):Cut fresh garlic clove into pieces and swallow like pills, maybe even chewing a little bit if you can stand it! Yours truly
UTI Remedy: everyone knows about cranberry juice, but I swear by beet juice. Really. Also GREAT for gall bladder irritation!!!It’s a little harsh by itself, but here’s my recipe that knocks it out:

  • Beets – 1 medium-large, grated
    • alternately, you can use juice (from a powder is great, and more convenient. I like this one from Synergy.)
  • Lemon juice – freshly squeezed, about half a lemon, to taste
  • Udo’s oil – about a tablespoon
  • Licorice tincture – a dropper or so, to taste
  • Options:
    • for UTI, I add a scoop of UTI Vibrance
    • for gall bladder, I add a couple droppers of Chanca Piedra
(link is for Liver/Gallbladder but Kidney one is fine too)

I usually make a big batch of this, and just eat / drink a little spoonful every couple of hours or so, depending on the severity.

To slice slippery items like a mango: pop a corn cob holder in the top (maybe slice a little off the top so it’s easier to grab), then hold that while you slice with the other hand, knick-free! Alton Brown, Good Eats (A Pie in Every Pocket episode)

Household

To get out red wine stains, use white wine (maybe one you don’t really want to drink…!). Pour liberally over the spot and voila! Yours Truly and my vast years of experience with red wine spills…
